Pete Tong & Riva Starr - Future Underground (2011)

It's been an absolutely massive week for Juicy, firstly, if all goes well i've bagged us an interview with Kissy Sell Out, Judge Jules, Bart B More and Sinden and secondly, this mammoth mix CD has dropped.

This is pretty much the pinnacle of modern day house music. Two absolute titans have joined forces to give you 2CD's of the freshest and best cuts out there, haven't looked forward to something like this since Toolroom Miami 2011. I haven't given it a full listen yet, i'll give a full review when i've done so. Even though i've not listened to it, i just know it's going to be unreal...

Highly recommend you get it now

Juicy's Soundcloud Sundays #3

This is the third installment of my favourite Juicy feature to date where i trawl the audio goldmine that is soundcloud and report back with the 5 top tunes that have kept me dancing all week long...

#5 Laidjack - My Forbidden Lover (Laidjack Edit For Lovers)
Straight in with some serious old school 110bpm vibes this week. Laidjack updates a disco classic, perfect for mellowing out in the sun. I've never really heard of this guy before but from his soundcloud page he's combining the genres of disco and deep house really well to create something truly unique. Check him out.
My Forbidden Lover (Laidjack edit for lovers) by Laidjack

#4 Dillon Francis - Beautician
At number 4 is a melodic slice of dubstep from up and coming producer Dillon Francis. Bu mashing together the heavier elements of artists like Doctor P and Flux Pavillion with quite melodic magneticman-esque electronic synthlines he breathes a breath of fresh air into the ailing genre of dubstep that's all beginning to sound the same. Also he's supporting Diplo and Sinden at the Liquid Rooms on May 5th. Gonna be larrge!
Dillon Francis - Beautician by DILLONFRANCIS

#3 Ghetto Funk - Been Real
Next is an electro/breaks croos over tune from Ghetto Funk. Not quite sure if Ghetto Funk is a label or an artist, all i know is that everything they're putting up on soundcloud is killing it! It uses the same old school sample from Avicii's 'My Feelings For You' but they put it to far better use than the swede! Mixing a big bassline with carnival style drums and a great vocal sample make this a true funky banger. Really can't wait to get my hands on this!
Been Real CLIP by ghettofunk

#2 Voltron - Don't Stop (XXXY Remix)
This man is truly killing it at the moment, the first act to be featured 2 weeks in a row on our Soundcloud Sundays feature! And if you listen to his tracks it really is for good reason. This time he takes the tempo up a bit and almost begins to explore MJ Cole style garage vibes whilst maintaining his impossibly funky trademark beats. If the first minute or so doesn't do it for you, fast forward to the second drop, simply superb, can't wait to see him live.
Voltron - dont stop (xxxy remix) by xxxy

#1 La Zebra - Piano Dancin
The top spot this week goes to LA based producer La Zebra and his awesome tune Piano Dancin. He crafts the entire main melody from old piano samples and its awesome! The sheer level of funk that exudes from it is amazing and no doubt it would have any dancefloor going within seconds, deserved winner!
Piano Dancin (Original Mix) by la Zebra

Watch out for a dedicated post soon about La Zebra, XXXY and Ghetto Funk, i love these guys!

Kit McBride's Promo Mix 2011!

I've never got round to recording a promo mix before, partly because I could never bring myself to choose between songs but with the opening of two new clubs in the Carlisle area, I thought I best pull my finger out and get something recorded!

I've fired together a collection of tunes I've been playing out quite a bit recently with a few of my own edits thrown in, switching from club bangers, to rock anthems, to dutch house, it's got a bit of everything (including Dire Straits!).

...If you enjoyed this feel free to check out my other edits and bootlegs on my SoundCloud profile HERE and my YouTube channel HERE!

Lots of love,

Kit x

Juicy's Soundcloud Sundays! #2

This is the second installment of our new (and quickly becoming my favourite) feature... SOUNDCLOUD SUNDAYS! In a nutshell, these are the 5 best cuts i've found this week whilst wading through the audio goldmine of soundcloud.com, and the best thing is none of these tunes are more than 4 days old. This week's a good'un...

#5 Sr. De Funk & Quincy Jointz - Tonight (Telephunken Remix)
This style of old-skool rap-esque funk infused with modern electro basslines seems to be getting bigger and bigger theses days (Think they're calling it Nu Funk?). Krafty Kuts (tune from him coming below) has been hammering this style for years now and it's prime for getting the dancefloors booming.
Sr de Funk & Quincy Jointz - Tonight (Telephunken remix) by Telephunken

#4 Count & Sinden - Desert Rhythm (xxxy Remix)
Sheer carnival vibes from xxxy here, house tempo with the off beat snares give it a really funky edge. Only thing is i think a good brazillian/latino vocalist over the top would absolutely set this tune off.
Count & Sinden - Desert Rhythm (xxxy remix) by xxxy

#3 Krafty Kuts Feat. Futurecast - Insane Bangers Vol. 11
While not technically a track, it's a preview of his new (Nu Funk?) EP Insane Bangers Vol. 11 and it truly does stay true to it's name. Massive recognisable kicks penetrate the big womping bass in the way only Krafty Kuts can. Olso get on his free Fresh Kuts mix as it's siiickk
Krafty Kuts & Featurecast - Insane Bangers Vol 11 (128kbps preview) by KraftyKuts

#2 Tonic & Audiobot - Happy Feet
This tune is right up here because of how completely off guard it took me. Starts out with a fairly good bouncing balkan beat and the build up continues in the same way, cuts out then... BOOM! You get hit by a massive dirty dutch beat over which he starts to layer the balkan sample again. It's awesome! and a free download...
Tonic & Audiobot - Happy Feet (Original Mix) by _tonic_

#1 Jess Mills - Vultures (MJ Cole Remix)
Not gonna lie, the top spot this week was a fairly easy choice as soon as i heard a preview of MJ Coles new remix. The original tune, being produced by breakage was already steeped in production pedigree but MJ Cole has taken it to another level. Having perfected the 2-step style, it clashed beautifully with the chilled vibes from Jess Mills. Can't wait to get the full version on some decent speakers and mellow out to the sub bass! GO GO GO!
Jess Mills "Vultures" (MJ Cole Remix) [clip] by MJ Cole

Techno Takeover

Feels like we've been neglecting techno as a genre on here for a while and theres loads of quality stuff surfacing at the minute so here we go:-

- Soul Clap always deliver, check out their essential mix

Hercules and Love Affair - My House (Derrick Carter Remix) My House (Derrick Carter Remix) by moshi moshi music

Other remixes come from Tensnake and Stopmakingme, worth checking out without a doubt.

Azari & iii - The Worker New direction for rising stars Azari & iii with a techno feel, check out Tensnake's remix of their anthem Reckless With Your Love here too.

Tom Flynn - Bianca released on Steve Angello's Size label, Tom Flynn was rated by Pete Tong as his upcoming producer of 2010, heavy praise and he doesn't dissapoint, not strictly techno but still unbeleivable.

And finally I'll leave you with a tune that everyone is waiting for to drop, the heavyweight duo of Art Department and Seth Troxler, a techno match up that cannot be rivalled, with their new tune Living the Life. Look out for more collaborations between the two as well as an appearance from the magnificent Soul Clap on the upcoming Art Department album, well worth a look.

If youre a fan of this check out Art Department's 2010 anthem Without You as well.

Pendulum - The Island (Billét's Garage Remix)

Here's a cheeky little remix i've been working on in the past few days at the expense of my exams in the summer. I found these stems lying round on my comp from a remix comp ages ago and after listening to Larry Sun's Garage Mix for Pelski I was inspired to make this little gem below.

Really trying to mix up the genre's here, spraying a bit of minimal and spookiness over the natural funk of a garage beat whilst layered up with Rob Swire's vocals. Dunno about you but i'm loving how it's ended up sounding...

Brand New Dada Life, Afrojack & Eric Morillo

It's been a fertile week in ye ol' blogosphere with some absolutely huge releases, spearheaded by the anticipation of Justice's forthcoming single and it's sounding massive!

Also, I come from a fairly small city in the north of Cumbria called Carlisle, it's not a very exiting place and the people don't (usually) have webbed hands, despite what a few geordies and a guernseain might try to tell you. Now Radio 1's One Big Weekend doesn't usually appeal to me, teeny boppers going wild for Beiber and Gaga isn't usually my scene so i was fairly indifferent when I heard it was invading my hometown of Carlisle. That was until i saw the lineup on the In New Music We Trust stage...

HOLY SHIT.

Swedish House Mafia, The Strokes, Magnetic Man, Nero, Chase & Status and The Foo Fighters.

We're all still in a state of shock, a friend sums it up pretty well on facebook "Radio 1 have literally no idea... Carlisle will break them" It'll be an interesting weekend to say the least.

Nevertheless, here's some funky bangers to keep you dancin' over the easter break...

#1 Tomeo West & Yvan Emerick - Wake Up

Tomeo West is a crackin' young producer from Nantes churning out some really danceable bombs and this one ain't no different. He's got another release coming out soon and it sounds class, was gonna save this one for the next Soundcloud Sunday but it's too good to hold on to for long.
Amazin' Time (Original Mix) by Tomeo West

#2 Reder8 - Amazing (Promise Land Remix)

#3 Flo Rida - Who Dat Girl (Promise Land Remix)

#4 Promise Land - Wrong

I was a bit slow on the uptake of Promise Land and it was only through Arslan's Promo Mix that i've got into them. Massive hands-in-the-air house tunes that really get crowds going, deffo one to keep an eye on in the future.

#5 Harry 'Choo Choo' Romero & Eric Morillo - Pa Ra Ra (Shake)

Two dons of the house music scene doing what they do best. Led by a hypnotic synth-line that builds and builds to a bangin' second drop at 4:50, get on it.

#6 Dada Life - Fight Club Is Closed

The follow up single to 'White Noise / Red Meat' from bassline monsters Dada Life. Expect as usual to get pummelled by sub bass and saw waves! It's huge but a blatant pattern is forming in their productions, i'm not complaining though!

#7 Afrojack - Doing It Right

This legend needs no introduction, especially to the residents of edinburgh he destroyed at the WeOwn gig at Ocean Terminal in early march. The thing i love about Afrojack is that his tunes are always so controversial, weird sqeaky drops and over-powering bass kicks which in hindsight seem ahead of his generation. This one's no different. As with most of his tunes it takes a few listens to get into them but it's worth it eventually.

Once again in the next two months we're spoilt by the sheer talent passing through, so expect a mammoth post about that soon.

And i've got a few cheeky productions in the pipeline so keep 'em peeled for them

Juicy's Soundcloud Sundays! #1

Woop! I've got us new feautre. It's no lie that i spend faaar too much time on the internet trawling through music blogs, sites and anything else i can get my hands on. But one musical medium that raises above the rest is Soundcloud. Nowadays it seems like everyone uses it, Deadmau5 under his guise 'Fuck My Life' releases all his previews on it, the release of 'HR 8938 Cephei' actually caused the site since it was so busy. My point here is that it is an absolute goldmine of new and undiscovered talent which was the idea that lead me to this new feature, Juicy's Soundcloud Sundays, clever...

Each sunday (yes, today is a monday), i'll post the best 5 releases on Soundcloud that i have ambled into during the week. Easy. So without further delay...

#5 The Morning Benders - Cold War (Star Slingers Remix)
Not the usual thing i'd listen to but those childish vocals and scattered lead line gave this tune real character that i've not seen in a long time. If The XX were happier and funkier, it would probably sound nothing like this, but its the closest i'm gonna get.
The Morning Benders - Cold War (Star Slinger Remix) buy & support japan by Star Slinger

#4 The XX - Intro (Minnesota Remix)
XX songs have been covered alot, so it takes something really special to rise above the rest. This remix is a remix of Sander Van Doorn's XX Booty that exploded late last year, Minnesota takes a chilled Joker-esque approach to great effect. It might not sound like much but the bassline sits so nicely with the original guitars, a lot of the time less is more and this is testament to that.

XX Booty (Minnesota RMX) by Minnesota

#3 Tensnake - You Know I Know It
If you're a regular follower of Juicy! or the Juicy! Show, you'll know know just how much me and jack love Tensnake. Disco's coming back and Tensnake's riding the wave, churning out impossibly funky beats from a mere 120bpm. It honestly seems this man can do absolutely no wrong, one of the artists i reallly want to see live.
You Know I Know It (prelisten) by Tensnake

#2 The Ramones - Blitzkrieg Bop (Drop Out Orchestra Rework)
I really don't know what to say about this, it's an awesome fusion of old punk, funk and disco hauled into the 21st century by this Swedish ensemble. It's one of those secret weapons you know will set any dancefloor alight. Deffo check out Drop Out Orchestra, they're mad.
Ramones - Blitzkrieg Bop (Drop Out Orchestra Rework) by Drop Out Orchestra

#1 KareN, Kuka & Dim Becko - Pure Light (Original Mix)
I'll start by saying i have no idea who any of these guys are, found this gem whilst looking through all the other entries to Mauro Picotto's production competition me and Jack entered. Safe to say compared to this we're more out of our league than my beloved carlisle playing in Serie A. Although it's a tried and tested tech house formula, they use the more minimal synths (check the second build up) to devastating effect. Simply sensational.

Karen,Kuka & Dim Becko - Pure Light (original mix) by KareN

Finally, Jack showed me this mix the other night and it's bloody class, such funky upbeat garage, is garage resurging to be the next big thing? If this mix is anything to go by then i hope so.

Axwell - Heart Is King by axwellofficial

Ed Banger Returns!

We've all heard the massive news which Ian posted about earlier, that Justice are releasing a new album, which we've been teased by from the Civilization video, but that's just the beginning of things for French label Ed Banger, whose reputation is absolutely untouchable.

This funky new tune from SebAstian continues the second coming of the French electro sound which was born in 2007, it's been sprayed all over the internet and rightly so, its an absolute gem, you need this in your life, I can guarantee it will make you dance even on the gloomiest of days - SebAstian - Embody (Low Quality)

MSTRKRFT aren't strictly part of Ed Banger but their sound typifies that French electro vibe, this is their first release since Fist of God, get on it - MSTRKRFT - Beards Again

Ed Banger also recently released a new compilation entitled 'Let The Children Techno'. which you can check out here.

Finally a blast from the past with an old classic, enjoy Kavinsky - Testarossa Autodrive (SebAstian Remix)

This week see's the Final Juicy! show of the semester so be sure to tune in between 830 and 930 on FreshAir to hear me and Ian premiere our new track as well as to hear our interview with The Brookes Brothers from last week and I'll be getting hyped to DJ at Sugarbeat at CabVol the same night, promises to be big, pencil both into your diary.

Russian House Mafia!

After smashing last summer with Swedish House Mafia-esque Across The Light, these four are back with another massive, big room banger to remind us that Creamfields couldn't come soon enough! This time with Mr V.I on the vocals and remixes from the likes of fellow Russians Hard Rock Sofa, I'm sure you'll be hearing much more from Swanky Tunes in summer 2011...
