Musika & Sugarbeat Present Tiga & Karnival Present Jesse Rose.

So this weekend I had the pleasure of playing 2 sets, for 3 of my favourite Edinburgh clubbing brands as visitors and residents alike looked to enjoy the last weekend of the festival.

First up was Sugarbeat and Musika's Festival Closing party with Tiga and they certainly closed the festival in style with all 3 rooms of Cab Vol absolutely jumping. In the main room Derek Martin took control early on with some deep, funky house to get the crowd moving, including Maceo Plex's phenomenal remix of Azari & III's 'Manic',

Azari & III - Manic (Maceo Plex Remix)

Then the hosts and residents, The Utah Saints, took to the decks and brought things a bit darker, dropping some heavy techno to an increasingly busy main room, with a sprinkling of more house orientated tunes such as Style Of Eye's smash 'We Are Boys' to mix things up.

Style Of Eye - We Are Boys

After this Tiga took to the stage, to the crowd's adulation and I moved to the Speakeasy to take control of the decks for an hour, taking over from Sugarbeat residents Trilogy who dropped some fantastic house including Oliver $'s smash 'Doin' Ya Thang'

Oliver $ - Doin' Ya Thang

I played an hour of house and disco, including my current go to tune Waifs & Stray's 'Yeah Yeah', before stepping things up into jackin house at the end from Solo & Scrubfish.

Waifs & Strays - Yeah Yeah

Scrubfish - Holla If You Came To Funk

At 3, Musika resident Laurie Neil took over control and I went to check Tiga, who was, predictably, killing a jam-packed main room with his trademark heavy techno sound.

ZZT - ZZAfrica

Leaving a sweating, heaving main room, I made my way back to the Speakeasy to play the last hour, after Laurie ended on the magnificent Benoit & Sergio's 'Principles' I played an hour of downtempo Nu-Disco to close out what had been a night to remember!

Principles by benoitandsergio

Benoit & Sergio - Principles

Big thanks to Musika & Sugarbeat for having me and for putting on such a massive night, watch out for both brands over the coming months as they deliver the cream of electronic music on monthly Saturdays (Musika) and Fridays (Sugarbeat)

Then on Saturday I had the honour of returning to Cab Vol, this time in the mainroom for Karnival, warming up for Made To Play (& Play It Down) head honcho and all round house legend Jesse Rose. I played from opening until 12.15, starting with an empty room and ending up having played one of the funnest sets I've ever done. I started out with nu-disco from Tensnake, Aeroplane and Tiger & Woods before building up to house and techno from the likes of Lee Foss, Clockwork, Julio Bashmore and Danny Daze.

Danny Daze - Fall Away From Love

Christophe - The Force (Julio Bashmore Remix)

Karnival Resident Stu Todd then took over, dropping some fantastic house tunes, including Maceo Plex's smash 'Falling' and Oliver $'s remix of Made To Play newcomer, Homework's Rally Racquet Club, before smashing 2011 anthem 'Battle For The Middle You' getting the crowd suitably hyped for the main man Jesse Rose.

Maceo Plex - Falling

Julio Bashmore - Battle For The Middle You

Jesse Rose then took control to a suitably rammed main room, and things went up another notch, with Jesse showing exactly why he's such a legend in the game, whilst Laurence Nolan and Jordan Cochrane delivered a deeper vibe in the second room. For the second night in a row CabVol was absolutely bouncing!

Black Rose (Jesse Rose & Henrik Schwarz) - Anthem

Many thanks to Karnival for having me to play and I look forward to seeing who they have in the future, if you're ever around Edinburgh it is a must visit for the finest in house & techno!

T.E.E.D - Trouble (Jamie Jones Remix)

Having returned from Edinburgh after 2 sets good enough to distract me from my Creamfields non-attendance blues, which I'll do a write up on tomorrow, I've come across this absolute gem by 2011's undisputed hero, Jamie Jones. He's remixing another rising star, T.E.E.D, whose choice of remixers is superb having already had Justin Martin and Jesse Rose amongst others giving his tunes the treatment (Household Goods & Garden respectively). Jamie Jones turns in a trademark funky, sleek house remix, well worth a listen.

Congorock - Sirius

Big News. The first brand new single of his forthcoming album 'Sirius' was released yesterday, think the next evolution of 'Babylon', he goes harder & dirtier than ever before. Brutal.

Emeli Sandé - Heaven (Nu:Tone Remix)

Emeli Sandé's anthemic single heaven reached #2 in the uk charts and i was genuinley suprised by just how good it was for a chart hit, such a soulful voice over a breakbeat rhythm was a treat. But that's not what i'm bothered about... Hospital Record's Nu:Tone has stepped the breakbeat up to D'n'B, he's not added masses to the actual tune but it just didn't need it. With simply a quicker beat, this commercial sucess has become a liquid D'n'B bomb...

Emeli Sandé - Heaven (Nu:Tone Remix)

Nu:Tone is a crazy good D'n'B producer, check out some of his other stuff...

Cassius - The Sound Of Violence (Aeroplane Remix)

Despite only being Juicy!'s second favourite member of the old Aeroplane, Vito (who still produces under the name Aeroplane) still has serious skills, as he yet again showcases his ability to create amazing grooves with a storming remix of Cassius's 'The Sound Of Violence'. Steel drums, gospelesque vocals and an 80's bassline make this a hit, check it out...

Cassius - The Sound Of Violence (Aeroplane Remix)

Also, did you know Aeroplane did a downtemp remix of George Micheal's 'Faith'? Neither did I until about a week ago...

Ben Westbeech - Something For The Weekend (Lee Foss & Robert James Spirit Remix)

Lee Foss and Robert James are currently taking the house scene by absolute storm, having remixed Clockwork's 'It's You Again' earlier this year to great effect, check it out here. They've now turned their hand to Ben Westbeech's new tune, 'Something For The Weekend' from his second solo album on Strictly Rhythm. Other remixes come courtesy of Disco don Joey Negro and Uk Funky officionado Roska, but the deep house interpretation by Foss & James stands head and shoulders above the rest. Set to drop on August 30th, this promises to be a huuuuge release, for now here's a youtube teaser ripped from Pete Tong's essential selection.......

Bonus - Clockwork - It's You Again (Lee Foss Meets Robert James in the Art Department Remix)

And check Robert James' 2011 smash Malibu here.

Stick on Juicy! over the next few weeks as we drop a pair of hot new mixes for the new year at university as well as announcing a host of dates we're Djing in the forthcoming months check us on Facebook and Twitter too.

Surkin - Ultralight

Surkin has returned with some solo work after collaborating with Para One & Bobmo as 'Marble Players' as part of the new Marble Music label formed from the ashes of the now extinct Institubes imprint. Jaymo & Andy George (who else) dropped it when they sat in for Pete Tong on Friday and I can safely say it's one of the best pieces of music I've heard all year, I can only find a radio rip so far, but that is enough to whet your appetite for the massive full release, and, if you're anything like me, force you to play it on repeat for about an hour going nuts in front of your laptop......

Safe to say I"m a fan.

Brand new Alex Metric

Alex Metric Open Your Eyes Album Cover | Alex Metric Album Covers

Any of you who check this blog will know just how much respect we have for Alex Metric, having played one of the funnest sets we've ever done warming up for him earlier this year. His remix of Niki & The Dove has just dropped, as part of his 'Open Your Eyes' album and as ever with an Alex Metric remix it has phenomenal quality, with a haunting vocal from Malin Dahltstrom over a phenomenally produced electro beat. This version is only a 128 kbp teaser so stick around for a full 320 to do it justice, get on it!

Hercules & Love Affair - Painted Eyes (Moonlight Matters Remix)

I've known about Moonlight Matters for a while now from his contribution to The Magician's amazing magic tapes but i only found out today that it's actually the solo side project of one of the members of Juicy! favourite VillA. He's very recently released a brand new remix of Hercules & Love Affair's 'Painted Eyes' turning a decent release into a disco anthem complete with slap bass and violins. Get all over it...

Style Of Eye - We Are Boys

Despite what people say about him doing seemingly fuck all in the Swedish House Mafia except blow air horns at their gigs, Sebastian Ingrosso wrote the famous riff in 'One' and puts out some seriously good music on his Refune label like this new track from Style Of Eye, 'We Are Boys'. It's really a twisted electro/techno hybrid, everything you'd expect from Style Of Eye...

Fake Blood - Deep Red EP

Massive news. Theo Keating aka Fake Blood, a hero in the electro/bassline crossover genre released a teaser of his new Deep Red EP onto soundcloud just 2 hours ago. The 3 new tunes are Deep Red, Voices and Medieval which Jaymo & Andy George used in their mixmag CD a while back. I'm not even going to attempt to descrive how big this release will be, hear for yourselves...

Big Rooms Bangers: Afrojack, Guetta, Hardwell & Erik Loz

Over the past few years house music has seen an explosion in 'Big Room' house as we'd call it. Those tunes with the epic breakdowns, spiritual buildups, massive chord stabs and huge drops. Hands in the air, worshipping the DJ kind of music. I've always been a bit sceptical about it, tune blurs into tune and eventually they all begin to sound the same but everyone needs a bit of big room in their life at somepoint...

David Guetta & Afrojack - Lunar (Original Mix) (Alt. Link) - The new offering from Dave & Jack, not quite what you'd think - chip tune & Daft Punk inspired?

DJ Fresh - Louder (Hardwell Remix) (Alt. Link) - Hardwell turns Fresh's dubstep anthem into a growling bassline monster - classic big room.

Erik Loz - Virtuoso (Original Mix) Only just heard of this guy but if Virtuoso is anything to go on, i'll be listening to a lot more of him.

BONUS - I couldn't mention uplifiting, hands-in-the-air house without posting this tune, simply timeless...

Maya Jane Coles & Zabiela coming to Edinburgh!

Juicy! favourite and the biggest house & techno night in the capital, Musika, have come up with an absolute killer line-up for October, with deep house goddess Maya Jane Coles and house don James Zabiela gracing the decks, ably supported by residents Derek Martin and Kirk Douglas.

Safe to say we're excited about this ridiculous double bill, having seen both of them smash it at Exit festival, alongside Zabiela's reputation as a past Space resident and all round monster in the house/techno scene and Maya Jane Coles phenomenal rise over the past year.

To get you in the mood here's Maya's recent essential mix, featuring her new remix of Little Dragon's 'Ritual Union' amongst many more of her own productions and tunes from Eats Everything, Nicola Gala and many more:-

Juicy! Loves: Keith & Supabeatz

Today i want to properly introduce you to an awesome house duo from the Southern Fried label: Keith & Supabeatz. They've been producing together now for two years or so and they're churning out some properly funky house, in a style similar to the 2 Bears who are exploding right now, i expect these two to do the same. Their latest offering throws together a massive bouncy bassline with seemingly random vocal samples but the slightly chaotic rhythm works so well and creates a really fresh sound...

Juicy! Loves: Greco-Roman

I don't know just why it's taken me so long to get all over the anglo/german Greco-Roman label but without doubt it's one of the most exiting and forward thinking out there. The cream of the emerging electronic talent like Joe Goddard (The 2 Bears & Hot Chip), Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs, Drums of Death and Hackman have all released on Greco-Roman so keep your eye on it in the future. Also all the artists combine on the label to DJ under the guise Greco-Roman Soundsystem, i'd fooking love to catch them live sometime. Check below for some of their releases, not the usual Juicy! craic but it's good to spread your wings every now and then...

Juiciest Cuts: Bart B More, Umek, Stefano Noferini, Glitter, Audio Jack & More...

Just wanted to share some of the tunes that've been tickling my fancy recently...

#1 Bart B More, Drop The Lime & AC Slater - The Bass (Original Mix)
Three of the biggest names in bass music and even a song called 'The Bass'? You know what to expect.

#2 Dirty Loud - Disco Records (Glitter Remix)
I'm really loving this pumping techno bassline feel at the moment (see Loops Of Fury - We Unfold then Andrea Bertolini - Speedmaster (Magitman Part 1 Remix) for what i'm on about) Absolute banger.

#3 DJ ADHD & Piotr Grymek ft. Kasia Malenda - Set Your Clock (Blinders & Bream Remix)
Real funky, old school sample driven, disco-esque house. Brings true summer vibes to a rainy august day, 'set your clock to the good time'.

#4  Umek & Stefano Noferini - Complementary Access (Original Mix)
Two tech house heavyweights collab for a mammoth late night banger with a huge build up, really needs to be played loud.

#5 Audiojack - Mind Games (Original Mix)
The synthline kind of reminds me of Juicy! favourite Stay Up by Evil nine, might explain why this track sounds awesome. Super funky pumping house which'll without doubt get you grooving.

Lime & Pink - Burnski Dub

Kris Wadsworth's gorgeous analogue anthem Lime and Pink has received two mixes from rising star Burnski, I've gone for the dub today, a beautifully stripped back, rolling piece of house music with an almost two-step kick, this is one you need to have in your collection!

Kris Wadsworth - Lime & Pink (Burnski Secret Garden Dub) [Direct Download]

More Burnski for you, this was included on Soul Clap's phenomenal Social Experiment 002 compilation featuring the likes of Lee Foss, Art Department, Miguel Campbell, Jozif and, of course, Soul Clap themselves. Burnski and Robert James' collaboration on Malibu is a phenomenal, deep, piece of house.

Burnski & Robert James - Malibu [Direct Download]

And finally here's a preview of the new Miguel Campbell jam, 'Baby I Got It', its such a funky slice of house, perfect for what should be an Indian summer...........

Waifs & Strays - Yeah Yeah

Just a quick one from me about rising Bristol house duo Waifs & Strays new jam, 'Yeah Yeah', they've already released on Leftroom and 'Yeah Yeah' is continuing their ascent, with radio 1's Heidi dubbing it ‘the dirtiest house track I have heard in a very long time’.

It certainly delivers and you can get your hands on it right here:-

P.S - Bonus track.

Fellow Bristolian Julio Bashmore turns in a phenomenally groovy remix of Christophe,

Belladrum 2011

The majority of the summer's antics are over bar creamfields, me & jack are back and the run-up to the start of uni is well and truly on. From here on in we're just gonna be getting hyped for second year, slotting into our residencies, getting back on the airwaves and spending the majority of fresher's desperately trying to creep on below average birds.

But first, I travelled farther north than ever before to the middle of nowhere scotland to DJ at Belladrum Festival...

The We Own lads were hosting the Mother's Ruin stage, which turned out to be a tiny DJ booth lofted 20 feet above the rubble of an old house with a 30k Elektrikal system hoyed in for fun, easily the best location i've played to date. I was spinnin' as the sun set 9 - 10:30 on the Saturday and despite the pissing rain, the scots were true to their nature, chanting 'HERE WE, HERE WE, HERE WE FUCKING GO' at any given chane. It was baaannngggiin'....  (iphone cameras are shit quality but you get the idea)

Here's some of the tunes i was hammering through the Eleltrikal system, anyone who's been to one of their events knows it's all about the bass!

Heavy Feet - I Will (Original Mix) easily my fave tune of this summer, massive grooving bassline makes your feet move.

Loops of Fury - We Unfold (Original Mix) (can't find a d/l link i'm afriad!) thought this was Waves by Boys Noize & Erol at first, it's crazy good.

Jaymo & Andy George - Midnight (Original Mix) from their Tension EP, massive fakeblood-esque bassline driven electro.

Get Hooked (DCUP Remix) - Nightriders  Proving once more he's got so much more than cheap Americano tunes.

Stress (Auto Remix) - Justice Proper old but sent the place crazy.

Dribble - Muffler Finally, the curveball at the end, brand spanking new D'n'B from Hospital records new compilation.

Big Thanks to the We Own (facebook) crew and the Elektrikal Sound System crew for throwing down such a crazy party.

New Bauchamp, Guti & Taras Van Der Voorde

Juicy! has been away for ages now and in order to rectify this the next few days will see a blizzard of posts, mixes, tunes and reviews. To start off with the Juicy! DJs have been booked to Play Karnival with Jesse Rose and Sugarbeat & Musika with Tiga on the 27th & 26th of August, with 5am festival licenses they promise to be biiiiig. With Ian at Creamfields I'll be playing both solo and in celebration of my return to the decks I'm working on a mix to drop tomorrow.

In the meantime here are some tunes full of summer vibes to get you grooving:-

If you follow us on Facebook or Twitter you'll have seen me hyping this tune from Bauchamp, who you may recognise for his role collaborating with The Round Table Knights on last summers anthem Calypso. Working solo he's delivered an equally brilliant tune and here it is, in wav format to do it full justice!

Bauchamp - Don't Care

bauchamp // DON'T CARE (hq 320 aiff for DJ's) by bauchamp

Next up the excellent Guti remixes Ray Foxx's phenomenal 'Trumpeter' making it a smooth, laidback house jam, well worth checking out.

Ray Foxx - The Trumpeter (Guti Remix)

Finally rising star Taras Van De Voorde has his new beat, 'The Game' transformed into a building piano laden anthem courtesy of Santos 909 & Piano Roll.

Taras Van De Voorde - The Game (Santos 909 & Piano Roll Remix)

Stay locked to Juicy! over the next few days as we announce our residencies and DJing plans for next year as well as new tunes and mixes.
