Juicy! people, just to let you know that both me & jack are off on our travels, bumbling round eastern europe before smashing the legendary Exit festival in Serbia in early july. This does mean there'll be fuck all updates from us untill the 14th July when we get back, although no doubt we'll barely be in a fit state to even talk after 3 weeks of drinking and partying let alone blog!

We don't usually post just about one song here on the Juicy! blog but for this banger i just had to make an exeption. Bag Raiders have always made really funky upbeat electro/disco that tended to be fairly bass heavy but with this tune they've really pulled it out of the bag (sigh)...
It's got everything, whistles, bells, bass and an unbelieveably catchy hook line, i got it yesterday and already i've listened to it about 20 times...
Disco gods villa, consisting of Thang and Francois are releasing monthly mixes which are generating significant hype on the web, with tracklistings released at the end of the month. May's edition featured stormers such as Todd Terje's Ragysh and Spiller's Pigeonman's Revenge before they dropped. Today I want to introduce a record label that has been putting out some seriously good music from a while now from some producers we've been raving about like Soul Clap, Lee Foss, Jamie Jones, DJ Sneak and Art Department. Also interestingly the name No. 19 Music comes from the philosophy behind the label...

Miguel Campbell is a producer that prides himself on his french electro styled disco that is influenced heavily by early daft punk sounds and it's crazy good, perfect summer vibes.
Also Soul Clap, who are signed to No. 19 have just released a compilation album called Social Experiments 002 featuring a shit ton of new music from pretty much everyone from the label, it's absolutely amazing. Higlights include... James Teej - Galaktik, Miguel Campbell - Kiss & Tell, Deniz Kurtel - The L Word. If you're looking to get into the deepish underground house you'll do no better than getting this compilation...
The month has reached its end and me and Ian are getting ready to return to Carlisle's Concrete tonight, off the back of sets at Heavy Gossip amongst others over the past few months. We've been quiet on the blogging front over the past week, and for good reason. Exams are over, summer has offically began, the countdown to Exit festival has started and the Juicy! DJs got invited down to London by Red Bull to cover a project they're working on...
The idea behind it is really quite simple, take 9 of the most promising up & coming artists representing each area of the UK, throw them in a state of the art studio with Steel City's Toddla T, compress it all into a Mixtape for free download over a period of 10 days then spray it all over the internet.
What do you get? Probably one of the most exiting musical projects we've seen in a long time.
After having got completley wired off all the free Red Bull we could drink, we stole some time with two producers making some serious waves within the techno scene, hailing from Perth but now based in Edinburgh... Clouds
We talk about all sorts of stuff, getting signed to Fake Blood's Label Blood Music, getting headhunted by Tiga's Turbo label, how their heavy party techno mixes with Toddla's dancehall vibes, exciting pints of beer and why they'd love to hear Daft Punk play tunes from an old jukebox in their local working man's club. Not gonna lie, he's a gent, and nuts, and this is one of the funniest interviews we've done to date. We get the low down from him on all sorts of stuff, his label Girl Music, his collaboration with Roska - Toddska, where he's looking forward to playing the most over the summer, why he likes to drink Guiness and Red Bull, eating waffles and chicken and finally who would win in a fight between Toddla T & Mr T.

Us here at Juicy! absolutley love the two dance music heroes Pete Tong & Annie Mac and their shows for the best forward thinking tunes out there. Both shows last friday were phenomenal and i thought you lot deserved to hear the best bits...
She moved onto Tinie Tempah's new tune 'Look At Me Now' and i don't like to say but i'm loving his new darker direction...
Also she was loving a garage Mini Mix done by DJ Q which included Zed Bias who we've been raving about how good he is for a while now. This just proves Juicy! is one step ahead of the game!

We've both finished for summer now and are contemplating a hazy 3 months of sessioning, DJing and generally enjoying ourselves and as if to celebrate the fact, Tim Green's brand new remix dropped onto the web. I've been a massive fan since Old Sunshine and his quite simply phenomenal remix of Cassius's 99, the tune of last summer without a doubt.

I dunno what it is but i always seem to fuck up when we're getting our photo taken with a big name! Anyway last night Hospital records invaded Edinburgh's Liquid Rooms with heavyweights Danny Byrd, Cyantific, Logistics, MC Darrison & MC Risky. It was a fitting post exams blow out, i've not seen a place go as nuts as that for a long time!
Danny Byrd was kind enough to let us interview him after his set, unfortunatley we couldn't use Liquid Rooms' office so we found a nice damp urine riddled step across the street from the club, classy. However we did get a class interview, we got Danny's opinions on subjects like his production influences, his plans for the summer, the advantages of a slap head over a full head of hair, the chuckle brothers and old bosses that have sacked him!
Exams are over, we're seeing and interviewing Danny tonight and i'm doing nothing for the next 4 months untill we start back at Uni. What a buzz. Even better is the fact that two bassline heros have collaborated, Nero & Sub Focus have combined to give us 'Promises' their new single
Anyone who does anything close to frequenting this blog will know how much me and Ian love Riva Starr and his label Snatch! which releases some of the most upbeat, party orientated house around. We recently interviewed him at Day Of Rest (listen here) and he told us about a new E.P based on a cartoon about a cat smoking Josefs and he's just released a minimix of the 3 tracks on Soundcloud:-
The second track, Mucho Gusto, is literally the best thing I've heard so far this year, as soon as I can get my hands on a download I can see it becoming a staple in my sets for months, if not years, to come, huuugee tune!
So i'm down to my last exam and i'm absolutely buzzed to finish. Just a quick post today to share with you lot two tracks that have hauled me through brutal hours of revision.
I don't know much about this group Clockwork except they're italian, playing at Treehouse in Manchester very soon and they make awesome tunes.
This one's my favourite, plenty of funky chugging bass with ghostly vocals make a stormer of a tune. It's been released on Hot Creations, the same forward thinking label that snapped up the massive 'Forward Thinking' by Not Natured.
Don't have a link for this tune but the 'Lee Foss meets Robert James in the Art Department Remix' is really good, deffinetly the vibe that's getting loads of attention at the moment.
Ed Banger have been on phenomenal form recently, with the release of their 'Bee Sides' compilation, 'Let The Children Techno' and the forthcoming albums from Justice and SebastiAn and the hits keep on coming........
The fantastic news that Carte Blanche are continuing to collaborate despite only setting out as a short lived side project has been compounded by the release of a new mix featuring new Carte Blanche material, alongside tunes from masters such as Thomas Bangalter, Chromeo, Azari & III and Drop The Lime.
The mix opens on one of my current favourites, the piano-laden 'Jack On The Moon' and ends on the forthcoming Carte Blanche single 'With You' featuring Hot Chip on vocals, big look! you need to make time in your life to give this a listen, these boys are siiickkk!
Marble Players - Playground Expect big things from the Marble Players, formed from the now deceased Institubes label, these guys are putting out some seriously good house music, as you'd expect with Surkin and Bobmo involved!
Wow. It's a surefire way to determine when summer is just round the corner when the big labels starting pumping out summer 2011 compilations. Judging by how amazing Toolroom Miami was, bringing us tunes like 'Groove Amigos - 123XYZ' 'Kids - Stefano Noferini' 'Beat Me Bacl - Supernova' and 'Marsch Marsch - Thomas Gold', Toolroom Ibiza has no option but to raise Toolroom's game once more and lucky for us lot, they've started spraying previews up onto soundcloud. I really cannot wait for the release, Toolroom Miami tunes were pretty much the backbone of my sets for about 6 months. These two are my favourites from it so far and below is the soundcloud set so you can listen to them all.
Summer is so so nearly here and after Ian's last post about Joy O. I though I'd take the chance to get excited about some of the talent hitting the clubs (and Gardens) over the next few weeks, which is all thats getting me through days of poring over Medical notes.
27/5 - WEOWN - Reaching no.2 in Mixmags monthly parties with their most recent offering WeOwn are bringing Dubstep heavyweights Skream & Benga to Ocean Terminal, ably supported by Skepta and rising star T.E.E.D along with some of their more familiar residents, One Dollar Dave and his side project Discopolis (recently announced for Rockness). These boys know how to throw a party, as anyone who witnessed Afrojack and Pete Tong will testify to, if you're a fan of your banging basslines this is one for you!
Pro. Green - Monster (T.E.E.D remix) - Fantastic remix of lyrical master Pro. Green, will go offfff in Ocean Terminal.
- 27/5 - Joy Orbison at CabVol. If you're into your more underground beats then Joy O is the one for you, Ian's already blogged about him, waxing lyrical so I won't go on for too long, but this guy has skiiiillllssss, he's making some of the most forward thinking music out there, he's not just riding the crest of Nu-bass, he's creating it! Support from Vincent Vega (Fuse), also known as Stu Todd and Gus Armstrong, two excellent DJs, promoters and all round top blokes!
28/5 - Maurice Fulton @ Heavy Gossip Relaunch (Hawke & Hunter) - Juicy! DJs on the decks.
The next day the session continues with legendary house night Heavy Gossip's relocation to Hawke & Hunter and I have the pleasure of being on warm-up duties. They're bringing techno officionado Maurice Fulton in to cut the ribbon and maybe even play a few tunes, this will be a massive night so all you techno & house heads get down, this is not to be missed!
29/5 - Princes Street Gardens with Arno Cost, Joey Negro & Dirty Vegas.
The Studiopunks, who have previously put on the now legendary Edinburgh Rocks party's, have delivered one of the finest lineups seen in Edinburgh for a long time, with an all day party in the very scenic Princes Street Gardens and an afterparty at a soon to be announced venue with me and Ian on the decks, amongst others. This will be the perfect way to see out the May Bank Holiday and they've put together a free mix in preparation of the event just to whet appetites, have a listen to get you in the mood for a day not to be missed.

Edinburghians, we've got some crracking news for all of you that are floating around on the 27th of May. The legendary Sugarbeat club night, recently entering it's 7th year, who also let Jack spin at their last event are bringing one of London's finest crossover talents, Joy Orbison.
Wikipedia describes his style as 'a coalescence of dubstep, uk funky, uk garage and house, that's probably the closest you're going to get to his eclectic trademark grooves that have gained him shitloads of attention. He exploded in 2009 after the release of his amazing single 'Hyph Mngo' on Hotflush and now he's back with his new ep, only thing is he's changed his name to Joy O. Sugarbeat with him on the 1's & 2's will be a sick night!
